Law, Ethics, and News Literacy
Being moral and ethical in journalism is very important to me. Even though I don't usually write news, I understand how important it is to be unbiased in news reporting, to share just the facts and let readers form their own opinions. Even with features and profile pieces, articles could have bias. Celebrity gossip websites or tabloid magazines, for example, are full of assumptions and exaggerations. In anything I write, I will always make sure to paint people in a positive light and only write with the information I'm given, rather than making things up to fit an angle.

Another aspect of news ethics I care a lot about is the use of AI in writing. This is an issue that has become very relevant in the last few years, as more and more people or organizations utilize systems like ChatGPT to produce content, rather than writing it themselves. While I enjoy messing around with AI for fun and occasionally using it as a tool to assist in my writing, I am very against using it to write entire pieces and making money off of. Not only do I not think AI can write as well as a human, but the very nature of using AI to write is dishonest and lazy.
Research Paper
My senior project was an internship for a magazine. As part of that project, I had to write a research paper that related to it in some way. The topic I chose was the problems with the modern, mainstream news industry. I love writing and journalism, but I recognize that there is a lot wrong with it in today's world.
