Book Synopsis:
In this desolate northern fief, where can Will find the fighting men he needs to overcome the traitorous Sir Keren and his band of criminals? Across the border, the fierce Scotti tribesmen are waiting for the signal that Castle Macindaw is in friendly hands, and the way is clear to mount a full-scale attack. Time is running out. Will's courage and ingenuity - and the arrival of an old friend - may be the only things that stand in their way.
My Review:
4.75/5 stars. This book was very enjoyable. I liked it more than the previous one in the series, but there were a couple elements that made it not quite a 5-star read. I loved having Horace again. He's my favorite character, and his dynamic with Will is always so fun. The plot of this book was also very action-packed throughout and kept me engaged.
I don't really have much to say in this review. Nothing was super amazing, but nothing was super criticism-worthy. I had a good time reading the story. It was very cinematic at times, during battle scenes. I could picture things very well.
One small complaint I do have is with Will and Alyss' relationship. It's not that I don't like it, but it was kind of annoying, especially toward the end. Both have feelings for each other and don't realize how the other feels, yet they kiss. People who aren't romantically interested in each other don't kiss. That should be enough of a sign.
Content:
Language: d*mn, h*ll, God's name taken in vain
Sexual Content: a kiss
Violence/Gore: lots of fighting, blood, wounds
Drugs/Alcohol: none
