(SPOILERS) Salty Kisses (Christy and Todd: The Baby Years #2) by Robin Jones Gunn - Review

Book Synopsis:

Christy is elated when her best friend arrives in Newport Beach. Although the reason for Katie’s journey from Kenya is complicated, they are hoping for lots of memorable catch-up time. But Katie isn’t herself, and nothing seems to be as it should. Why doe Christy’s heart feels so unsettled? What does friendship mean in this season of life?

My Review:

4/5 stars. This book had a lot of cute plots in it, but there wasn't really much of a conflict. It wasn't boring, but there weren't a lot of problems to get resolved in the end. I only have one more book in the whole series, though, so I'm excited to read what happens in the next one.

The best development from this book was that Katie is pregnant. It was nice to have her throughout the entire book, she's such a fun character that adds a lot of entertainment. We also got, toward the end, Christy's second pregnancy. While these later books don't have as much drama, it's nice to read about all the adult life events.

A good portion of this book took place in Glenbrooke, Oregon. I know that RJG has a whole separate series of books that take place there. I plan to read those eventually, so this book was a nice introduction to some of the characters. I love books set in small towns, so I know I will also enjoy that aspect of the series.

One of the only "big" conflicts in this book - although it was still pretty minor - was the feeling Christy had realizing her friends have their own lives and other friends. While I'm not in the same life stage as the characters are now, I could still relate to that slight jealous feeling Christy had about Tracy and Doug in Glenbrooke.

Like I've already said, the biggest downfall of this book was the lack of conflict. Part of a good plot involves an ongoing conflict, whether internal or external, that drives the events of the story and leads to a satisfying conclusion when it gets resolved. A lot of the more recent Christy books haven't had a driving conflict, but it was especially noticeable in this one. There were a few little problems, but the book was mostly just different things happening.
