(SPOILERS) As You Wish (Christy and Todd: College Years #2) by Robin Jones Gunn - Review

Book Synopsis:

Christy is finally back in the country after finishing her year abroad. Together with her friends at Rancho Corona University her junior year is everything she's hoped for: sharing a dorm with her best friend and seeing Todd every day.

But then the painful break-up of her friends' marriage causes Christy to pull back and seriously evaluate her deepening relationship with Todd. Above all, she wants to be clear on what God wants her to do with her future before she makes a lifelong commitment to anyone.

Naturally, everyone has advice for Christy's life, including Sierra, Uncle Bob, and even her younger brother. The most helpful guidance, however, comes from a surprising source. Will Christy and Todd at last become engaged? Does life ever turn out as we wish it would?

My Review:

5/5 stars. I loved this one just as much as the first in the College Years books! I read through it in only 3 days because I couldn't put it down. I had all the feels while reading this. Christy and Todd were adorable throughout the whole book. This was one of the most emotional Christy books in a while. A lot happened, from really intense moments to mundane college things, so there was a good balance.

One thing in this I loved was learning more about Todd's family and childhood. There hasn't been as much backstory given in other books as there was in this one. It adds more depth to Todd's character and his motivations.

Like I already mentioned, the relationship between Todd and Christy in this book was so cute and sweet and wholesome. Unlike the first college years book, there weren't any points where Todd was being annoying or there was miscommunication. There were some big developments in their relationship in this book - Christy finally saying "I love you" and Todd finally proposing!

I read one review that described this book as "boring." I guess we weren't reading the same book, because this book was anything but boring. While there were some slower parts where not too much happened, the bigger events made up for it. Besides, when nothing much externally was happening, the book delved into Christy's internal conflicts.

The biggest external conflict was Todd's car accident. That's also what made this book super emotional. Even though I know that Todd will be perfectly fine because there are future books, the scenes with Christy in the hospital were sad. I loved the discussion, however, about how sometimes God allows bad things to happen so wonderful things can come from them, like Christy's brother, David, becoming a Christian.

One thing I kind of hoped would be including was Doug and Tracy being pregnant. Maybe that will be in the next book.
