Forever With You (Christy and Todd: The Married Years #1) by Robin Jones Gunn - Review

About the Book:

Now that they have been married for almost two years, Christy and Todd are facing challenges neither of them expected. Everything that felt familiar in their relationship is being shaken. All they had hoped for in their future together is about to change.

When Christy shares her life-altering news with Todd, she doesn't receive the joyful response she was expecting. Aunt Marti inserts a few strong opinions about how the young couple should navigate this difficult season and when Todd's dad asks for help renovating his Newport Beach home it's clear that nothing will ever be the same for them again.

As Christy and Todd's relationship is radically altered will they continue to drift apart? Or will they come through the major shifts with a deeper love each for other and the One who brought them together in the first place?

My Review:

4.5/5 stars. I really enjoyed this one. There were a few parts where it felt a little slow and just a downer, but most of It was great. I just love reading about these characters and their lives, so anything from this series at this point will be enjoyable to me.

Based on the description and chapter one of the book, it seemed like this book was maybe going to be about Christy and Todd being pregnant. That wasn't the case. The conflict is this book was about Todd and Christy struggling financially. While this is not a problem I can relate to at all in my own life yet, it was easy to empathize with them most of the time and felt very realistic.

Christy and Todd's relationship was, as always, adorable and heartwarming. Even when they got into arguments and disagreements, they made up quickly and were back to being cute.

I don't know why exactly this didn't feel like a five-star book. It just didn't keep me engaged the entire time. There were some parts where there wasn't too much happening that felt almost like filler.

The ending was really nice. I loved Aunt Marti writing the one Bible verse she knew. It was a small thing but it showed some character growth. I also liked when Christy and Todd got the news about staying in the house for free and the check from the church parents. That felt like a satisfying conclusion after reading about their struggles for the whole book.
